Welcome to rsasnet.org
rsasnet.org was created to provide our member agencies
a repository of relevant and up-to-date information toward the
fulfillment of their missions to provide the highest quality vocational
services to people with disabilities.

discussion and collaboration among providers are available to
registered members only.
This site utilizes the php-nuke content
management system. This is open source software available for download
at the link at the bottom of this page.
RSAS was established in 1987 to expand program

rehabilitative services and to expand vocational opportunities for the
individuals they serve.
Organization
structure, standards, and procedures determined and developed with the
assistance of a large group of private agency directors and individuals
with
experience in many phases of rehabilitation field
Performance
based accreditation system pioneered by RSAS directs attention to
results
rather than traditional service models.

PROTECT MEDICAID BENEFICIARIES AGAINST HARMFUL CUTS TO VITAL SERVICES
Posted by Tom on Tuesday, April 26 @ 15:36:22 CDT (2144 reads)
Action
Steps
This is just the
beginning of a long battle. The budget resolution passed is only a
blueprint, but an important one. Please call or visit your
Congressional Representatives while they are on spring recess from
April 25th to April 31st. Some of the
talking points to stress are as follows:
- We are not
against reform of Medicaid but cuts alone will only shift costs to the
states and result in a loss of community services while leaving only
costly institutional services as an option.
- Home and
community based waiver services enable people to live and work in the
community, many of whom eventually become taxpayers instead of
beneficiaries of public funding.
- People with
disabilities should have access to the same opportunities to live and
work in the community as other Americans and can do so with support.

LibreOffice Debuts, Beating OpenOffice.org by a Whisker
Posted by Tom on Tuesday, February 22 @ 12:57:21 CST (2344 reads)
You may or may not have heard of LibreOffice - this is the open source
community's replacement for the OpenOffice suite of office applications.
( yes, OpenOffice still exists - for the story of why we prefer
LibreOffice, look here
).
"LibreOffice 3.3 is as polished
as one might expect in a project that, for all its novelty, has many
years of
development work behind it. Although it’s probably not going to gain
widespread
acceptance in the corporate world, any outfit that’s looking for a
solid
toolset for users who don’t require a lot of handholding, or
integration with
Microsoft’s Office server applications, could do much worse than to
choose it. For
many users, this will have everything necessary in a
desktop-productivity
suite, for an unbeatable price: free, that is." eweeks

Workshop Announcement from Benefits Training and Consulting - Employment and Ben
Posted by Tom on Tuesday, February 22 @ 10:33:23 CST (2175 reads)
Michael Walling, a national expert on employment and benefits, is
returning to Washington State in March 2011 and we want to
extend an invitation to participate in his upcoming
training. Having an understanding of how work impacts
benefits is crucial in helping consumers embrace the idea of
employment as a feasible option. This training is a great introduction
for clinicians to be equipped with basic information
to help alleviate those initial fears that clients face.

Ed's Passing
Posted by Tom on Tuesday, February 08 @ 17:25:15 CST (2640 reads)

I am very saddened to be informing you
of the passing of Ed Grindrod.
He passed peacefully at home after
a battle with cancer.
As founder and Board President of RSAS,
he has been the driving force and inspiration for all those employed by
and volunteering for our corporation.
His vision of cost effective, outcome
based accreditation has benefited thousands of people with
disabilities,
served by the nearly three hundred vocational service providers
accredited by RSAS, in seven states, over the past twenty three
years.
His legacy of creating opportunities
for the realization of personal, vocational and organizational goals
has enabled many of us to attain those goals.
On a personal note, Ed has been a
mentor and a friend - he will be sorely missed.
His obituary
below from the Olympian.

Contact Your Representatives to Convene a Hearing on the ABLE Act!
Posted by Tom on Wednesday, July 07 @ 13:13:41 CDT (2423 reads)
BACKGROUND:
APSE
urges its members to contact their local Representative and ask them to
convene a hearing on a very important piece of legislation – the ABLE
Act of 2009. The ABLE Act, ‘Achieving a Better Life Experience Act of
2009' (H.R.
1205/S. 493)
gives individuals with disabilities the freedom to save money in
tax-exempt savings accounts called ABLE Accounts.
The
ABLE Act is an important step in ensuring that individuals with
disabilities are given an opportunity to save for their future. The
money saved in an ABLE Account would be able to be used to pay for
certain expenses, including education, housing, transportation,
employment support, medical care, and certain life necessities.
Furthermore, the ABLE Act will reduce the barriers to employment faced
by individuals with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities will
now be able to save money in order to help pay for costs associated
with employment supports, a critical need of so many individuals with
disabilities in order to maintain their employment.
The
ABLE Act is a positive step forward in ensuring that individuals with
disabilities are capable of saving their earnings without facing
penalty or the prospect of losing their benefits. Giving individuals
with disabilities the chance to establish an 'ABLE Account' is an
effective way to better the lives of individuals with disabilities and
encourage responsible asset development.
